At the Museum for Ice Age Archaeology in Monrepos you can go back up to one million years in time and experience the history of the Rhineland. Children particularly enjoy playing around the life-size replica of a mammoth which welcomes visitors to the museum's garden. The museum focuses on the culture of hunters and gatherers in this region up to 6000 BC. It houses the famous finds from the village of Gönnersdorf, in the hills overlooking Neuwied. The internationally renowned centre, lying in the woodlands above the district of Segendorf, is a branch of the Roman-Germanic Central Museum in Mainz. Unusual gift shop with themed books and related items.
