Neuwied Zoo in the district of Heimbach-Weis overlooking the Rhine valley is an exciting experience for adults and children alike. About 1200 native and exotic animals from all over the world live on an area of thirteen hectares (approx. 32 acres) surrounded by forests and fields in a park-like setting.

Around 70 kangaroos live in an enclosure of three hectares (approx. 7.4 acres) - among them probably the largest colony of great grey kangaroos outside of Australia. The zoo stages a grand family day on 1 May each year and offers the unusual and very popular "dusk guided tours" which give visitors the opportunity to watch nocturnal animals.
